Charadrophila

Full name and orig. publication: Charadrophila Marloth, Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 26: 358 (1899).

Etymology: Composed of the Greek χαραδρα, charadra = gorge, and φιλείν, philein = to love, in allusion to the characteristic habitat of the plant (“kloofs”).

Notes: This genus from South Africa has been often included in Gesneriaceae. The morphological characters (seedling, inflorescence, flower, gynoecium, fruit, seeds), however, place the genus unequivocally in Scrophulariaceae, where it was originally described (Weber 1989).
