Cyrtandromoea

Full name and orig. publication: Cyrtandromoea Zoll., Syst. Verz. Ind. Arch. 3: 55, 58 (after March 1858).

Etymology: Composed of the generic name Cyrtandra and the Greek όμοιος, homoios = similar, as the plants are similar to Cyrtandra in habit and other characters.

Synonyms: Busea Miq. (1856).

Position: See Notes.

Species number: Ca. 12.

Type species: Cyrtandromoea decurrens Zoll.

Species names (incl. publication and synonyms): See Skog, L.E. & J.K. Boggan. 2005: World checklist of Gesneriaceae: http://persoon.si.edu/Gesneriaceae/Checklist.

Notes: The genus was transferred by Burtt (1965) to Scrophulariaceae. The molecular data of Smith et al. (1997) suggest a position in Gesneriaceae, but this needs confirmation. Apart from morphological characters, also the presence of iridois (unknown in Gesneriaceae) is in favor of a scrophulariaceous position.
