Dolicholoma

Full name and orig. publication: Dolicholoma D.Fang & W.T.Wang, Bull. Bot. Research 1: 18 (Dec. 1983).

Etymology: From the Greek δολιχος, dolichos = long, and λωμα, loma = limb, alluding to the limb with long corolla lobes.

Infrafamilial position: Didymocarpoid Gesneriaceae - "Advanced Asiatic and Malesian genera" (Weber 2004).

Description: Perennial rosette herbs. Leaves many, long petiolate, lamina narrowly elliptic or ovate, both surfaces white pubescent, lower surface sometimes purple, margin ciliate. Cymes 1- to few-flowered, peduncle slender, bracteoles linear, pedicels white pubescent. Sepals free to base, linear. Corolla rose pink, villous outside, puberulous inside, tube narrow cylindrical, limb bilabiate, upper lip 2-lobed, lower lip 3-lobed, lobes long, narrowly triangular, acute, ciliate. Stamens 2; filaments inserted below throat; anthers dorsifixed, apically coherent, locules confluent; staminodes 2. Nectary annular. Ovary narrowly ovoid, puberulous; style slender; stigma disciform. Capsule ellipsoid, 4-valved.

Distribution: S China (SW Guangxi). 

Ecology: Growing on rocks and in rock crevices in shady places in mountainous regions, 1200m.

Notes: The long- and narrow-tubed flowers with long, narrow spreading corolla lobes suggest pollination by butterflies or moths.
