Type species: Goyazia rupicola Taub.

Distribution: C Brazil (Planalto).

Ecology: Terrestrial herbs growing on damp and mossy rocks; dormant in winter.

Notes: The genus is still little known. It is said to be related to Achimenes, Eucodonia, Gloxinia, and Monopyle by Wiehler (1983), differing by the thin, wiry stems, the short, swollen petiole, and the thick, leathery leaves exhibiting an unusual (pericraspedodromous) venation pattern. Molecular (ndhF) data (Smith 2001, Roalson et al. 2005a,b), however, suggest a closer affinity with Moussonia and Gloxinia.
