Lagarosolen

Full name and orig. publication: Lagarosolen W.T.Wang, Acta Bot. Yunnan. 6: 11, fig. 1 (Feb. 1984).

Etymology: From the Greek λαγαρος, lagaros = thin, and σωλην, solēn = tube, alluding to the narrow-cylindrical corolla tube.

Infrafamilial position: Didymocarpoid Gesneriaceae - "Advanced Asiatic and Malesian genera" (Weber 2004).

Description: Perennial acaulescent herbs. Leaves alternate, petiolate, broad elliptic to ovate, ovate-orbicular, crenate, white strigose on both surfaces. Cymes axillary, shorter than leaves, dichasially branched, bracteoles large, narrow elliptical. Sepals free to base, linear-lanceolate. Corolla purple, with narrow, slightly widening tube, limb bilabiate, upper lip 2-lobed, lower lip 3-lobed, lobes narrowly triangular, acute. Stamens 2, included; filaments short, inserted at or above middle of corolla tube, straight; anthers oblong, apically coherent, thecae confluent at apex; staminodes 3, very small. Nectary cyathiform. Ovary slender cylindrical, puberulous or glandular pubescent; style slender; stigma bilobed. Fruit unknown.

Distribution: S China (SE Yunnan, Guangxi). 

Ecology: Growing on limestone hills, in broad-leaved evergreen forests, c. 1500m.
